THE WAFFLE HOUSE WAY

When I was on the road, I could always tell that I had arrived in the South when I saw the first Waffle House of the tour. Magically, no matter  the location, the same people were always inside! I'm a member of the North Florida Folk Network monthly virtual song circle and, as luck would have it, the prompt a couple of months back was "waffle". This song was in response to the prompt, but also remembrances of the road. Copyright 2021 Chris Kastle. www.chriskastle.com

El Faro

Original song  memory of the crew of the El Faro the U.S. Merchant ship that went down off the Bahamas on October 1, 2015.

A Little Hug

An original song to cheer you up by Chris Kastle! Recorded live while sheltering in place at home: 2 months 2 weeks 2 days after the first case of COVID 19 in the USA.

Get Back on the Horse

It is Memorial Day, 2020. This is a personal story that happened to me once upon a memorial day. It was recorded live at the Limelight Theatre on February 4, 2020 in a Tale Tellers of St. Augustine presentation, "Growing Pains"; a two-woman show of personal stories and original songs that I did with Rose van der Berg.

Where to Go

I wrote and recorded this poem in my dining room six months into sheltering at home. It has been almost nine months since the first documented case of COVID-19 in the US. We have reached another landmark today -- more than 6 MILLION cases and the loss of so many lives. The collateral damage to family, home and livelihood seems almost unsurmountable. Civil discourse has been severely eroded.  With so many horrors in the headlines, those in dire straights seem to have left the public eye. What happens when you have no home in which to shelter?
